October was an unforgettable month, brimming with new experiences and a lifetime of memories. The month started off slow, filled with familiar routines, but soon picked up pace, transforming into an adventure that took me from California to Japan, and eventually back to Miami. Each destination marked a shift in pace and perspective, building a collection of experiences that has left a lasting impression. From the laid-back beach towns of California to the vibrant streets of Tokyo, each stop held a unique charm. As I relive the highlights, I can’t help but reflect on how these journeys impacted me—each place offering a sense of wonder and a lesson of its own.
California, my first stop, was like returning to an old friend. Technically, I visited twice, with Cali acting as my pit stop before and after Japan, but in my mind, it all blended into one seamless adventure. Spending time with friends and family was, as always, a treasure, and I took every chance to soak in those meaningful connections. A visit to Erewhon, a quintessential California experience, didn’t disappoint, but the real highlights were my visits to Malibu and Coronado. There’s something about California’s quieter beach cities that stays with you—their serene charm and laid-back vibe call to me as the kind of place I’d like to call home one day. Every walk along the beach or coffee sipped with a view of the waves reminded me of how special these moments are and how California has a way of making even a short trip feel timeless.
Next, Japan. Traveling outside North America for the first time was surreal, and even now, I’m still in awe of all that I experienced. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the luxury cars or high-end watches that captivated me, but rather the striking convenience, cleanliness, and safety of Tokyo—a city of such enormous scale. The contrasts with places like Los Angeles or New York couldn’t be more evident; Tokyo’s cleanliness felt almost surreal by comparison, and the mindfulness of its residents left an indelible mark. The highlights? Seeing the majestic Mt. Fuji, experiencing the magic of Tokyo Disney, and navigating the endless seven-story arcades that seemed to go on forever. And let’s be honest—it wasn’t the bidets that I appreciated most! Instead, it was the refreshing sense of order, the way everything was just so thoughtfully arranged. The whole experience was like stepping into a world that turned daily routines into a fine art.
Having now seen a world beyond North America, I’m filled with a new curiosity to explore even more. I’ve seen many of the major cities here—each unique, each vibrant—but visiting Japan awakened a thrill and excitement I hadn’t known before. American cities, while full of character, have room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness and urban organization. Tokyo set a new standard in my mind. With this newfound energy, I’m more eager than ever to continue traveling, to learn, and to take in more of the world’s incredible cultures and traditions. This October showed me how travel can transform perspective, and it’s a feeling I’m already itching to chase again.
In the end, October was an incredible month, even if it meant less time working. With the richness of experiences from Cali, Miami, and Japan, it was more than worth it. A Japanese saying, 井の中の蛙大海を知らず (I no naka no kawazu taikai o shirazu), or “A frog in a well does not know the ocean,” resonates with me now more than ever. It reminds me that the world is so much larger than what any of us know, and to truly understand it, we need to keep expanding our perspectives. I’m more motivated than ever to work hard, to savor what these experiences have given me, and to embrace the journey ahead.
